Graham Potter showed just how seriously he views the Carabao Cup as he gave debuts to two 17-year-olds, an 18-year-old and two 19-year-olds for the visit of fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in the third round of the competition.

With Villa sending out a vastly more experienced lineup consisting of a whole host of players who helped them to promotion from the Championship last season, it was little surprise to see the Albion going down to a 3-1 defeat with one of those 17-year-olds, Haydon Roberts, scoring the Seagulls’ consolation.
