Car on fire and Dunk at the death: Brighton 1-1 Everton photos
Brighton 1-1 Everton proved a day for dramatic photos. Not only was there a car fire on the A27 during the game, but Lewis Dunk was on fire too to rescue a draw for the Albion right at the death.
The first of those incidents left large plumes of smoke appearing behind the North Stand during the second half. East Sussex Fire and Rescue attended the scene and used two breathing apparatus, one hosereel and compressed air foam to extinguish the blaze.
Everton were unable to douse Dunk in similar style as the Seagulls captain headed home a 95th minute equaliser, earning what could prove a very important point for Brighton in the race for Europe.
The Albion enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and created almost all the clear cut opportunities through the opening 70 minutes of a somewhat one-sided clash.
But the longer the game went on without Brighton scoring, the bigger the fear of Sean Dyche doing his normal number at the Amex became.
Dyche last tasted defeat in Sussex back in 2013. On his past two visits, the Stone Cold Steve Austin look-a-like had overseen a 5-1 win for his relegation threatened Everton and a 3-0 victory for his bottom of the table Burnley.
The fear of getting Dyched once again suddenly became very real when Jarrad Branthwaite volleyed the Toffees into a 73rd minute lead after Brighton failed to deal with a free kick pumped forward by Jordan Pickford.
Matters then made worse eight minutes later when Billy Gilmour was shown a straight red card for a reckless tackle on Amadou Onana.
Yet the 10 men rallied impressively after that. Pickford made an outstanding save and substitute Ansu Fati saw a shot blocked as the Seagulls laid siege to the Everton goal.
The pressure eventually told when Pascal Gross crossed and Dunk rose highest to pick out the far corner with a towering header, rewarding those Brighton fans who had not left early in a bid to avoid the chaos on the A27.
