Albion conquer Amsterdam: Ajax 0-2 Brighton photos

Nobody is ever likely to forget the night it finished Ajax 0-2 Brighton at the Johan Cruyff Arena – but just in case you do, these photos will recall the evening in perpetuity.

Everywhere you turned in Amsterdam, there was blue and white to be found. From the bars to the coffee shops to the museums and even to the canals, after one unfortunate Albion supporter mistook green weeds floating on the top for a solid bank and ended up in the water.

That moment was thankfully captured and included in this collection, along with plenty of photos from the city itself and the stadium.

With the roof shut, the atmosphere inside was electric before kick off. It was another pinch yourself moment as the teams came onto the pitch; here were the Albion standing alongside that iconic white shirt with a single red stripe down the middle of the four time European champions.

It did not take long for the Seagulls to make their mark. 15 minutes had elapsed when Simon Adingra seized on a loose pass and played in Ansu Fati.

The on-loan Barcelona forward made no mistake in giving Brighton the lead, scoring for the second Europa League game in a row after netting in the 2-0 win over Ajax at the Amex.

Having already seen James Milner limp off after just six minutes, the Albion lost captain Lewis Dunk at half time to injury.

A concerning night on that particular front was rounded off by Pervis Estupinan lasting only 12 minutes following his return from injury as a second half substitute.

Brighton were already 2-0 up by that point though, Fati returning the earlier favour to Adingra and setting up the Ivorian winger to double the advantage.

Beers went flying in celebration, necessitating a warning over the stadium tannoy – if anymore beer was thrown by away fans, then the bars on the concourse would be shut.

“We’re Brighton & Hove Albion, we’ll throw what we want,” came the response. Thankfully, the bars did remain open, allowing Seagulls supporters to toast one of the most famous evenings in Albion history.
