Clarets provide the comedy: Burnley 1-1 Brighton photos

Unfortunately, no Brighton fan managed to capture in photos the moment Burnley scored one of the best comedy own goals you will see in the 1-1 draw between the sides at Turf Moor.

There was absolutely no danger or Albion player within 30 yards of the Clarets goal when Sander Berge played a back pass to Arijanet Muric – and if we are being honest, little chance of the Albion finding an equaliser of their own.

It had been a below par and toothless display from Brighton in keeping with recent results and performances since the 4-0 Europa League defeat away against Roma.

Yet Muric somehow let the ball slip under his foot, from where it rolled into the empty net. Cue anger and despair amongst the home support whilst the travelling Seagulls did not know whether to laugh or celebrate.

Burnley had taken the lead just a few minutes earlier via something of a gift from the Albion, although not anywhere near the standard of Muric.

Carlos Baleba did not get enough purchase on his own attempted back pass to Bart Verbruggen, enabling Josh Brownhill to nip in and put the Clarets 1-0 up.

Burnley just about deserved that having been the better side, particularly in the opening exchanges. Pervis Estupinan was fortunate not to concede an early penalty when clumsily challenging Wilson Odobert in the box.

The lively Odobert caused plenty of problems for Estupinan, as did Jacob Bruun Larsen down the other flank against Joel Veltman.

Larsen should have given Burnley the lead but somehow conspired to put an Odobert cross wide of the post from three yards out. It was a miss almost as funny as the own goal.

Brighton looked better defensively once Estupinan went off injured to be replaced by Igor Julio. Good chances for both sides were limited after that, meaning the 10th draw in the past 16 meetings between the Albion and Burnley is unlikely to stick in the memory for too long.
