Even Gully is bored of Clarets curse: Brighton 1-1 Burnley photos

Brighton 1-1 Burnley extended the Clarets’ unbeaten run at the Amex into an 11th year – with these photos showing that even Gully is bored of Albion’s dismal record against their bogey side.

You have to go back to August 2013 to find the last time a Brighton team beat Burnley on home soil. Goals that afternoon from Leonardo Ulloa and Andrew Crofts secured a 2-0 victory, giving Oscar Garcia his first Amex win as Seagulls boss.

Since then, there have been score draws, bore draws and heavy defeats. Particularly painful was the Clarets’ last visit to Sussex, when they left with a 3-0 victory despite being rock bottom of the Premier League having won just once in seven months.

This latest instalment was at least miles better than that horror show. Brighton might have even won were it not for the brilliance of James Trafford in the Burnley goal.

Trafford made a string of superb saves over the course of 90 minutes, denying all of Pascal Gross (twice), James Milner, Kaoru Mitoma, Simon Adingra and Jack Hinshelwood.

In addition, Mamhoud Dahoud and Jan Paul van Hecke put decent chances just over and just wide respectively.

The Clarets in contrast made the most of one of their few opportunities. Wilson Odobert hit a shot in first half injury time which deflected off Milner to beat Bart Verbruggen at his near post.

Roberto De Zerbi was pretty bold in response, ending up playing a 3-2-5 formation as the second half wore on.

The pressure eventually told as Brighton finally managed to find a way past Trafford. The outstanding Gross hung up a cross from the left to the back post, where Adingra was ready and waiting to power a header into the back of the net.

That improved the mood of the crowd (and Gully) but no winner could be found and so the Albion had to settle for a point. No bad thing perhaps, given the Curse of the Clarets?
