Gunners go berserk at Albion: Arsenal 1-1 Brighton photos

Gunners fans. Gotta love ’em. Here we are with another set of photos from Brighton visiting Arsenal in a game which sparked another unbelievable set of tantrums from the hosts, this time because the Albion took a deserved 1-1 draw.

Brighton getting results at the Emirates Stadium has become a frequent occurrence over the past five years. There was the wonderful 3-0 victory under Roberto De Zerbi in May 2023 which all-but ended Arsenal’s hopes of catching Manchester City in the title race, leading to thousands of Gunners supporters to walk out before the final whistle.

Six months earlier and De Zerbi’s Seagulls eliminated Arsenal from the third round of the League Cup, winning 3-1 at the Emirates.

Glow Up Graham Potter also masterminded two wins in this part of north London. A 2-1 success in the 2021-22 campaign was a significant blow to the Mikel Arteta’s ambitions of a top four finish.

Victory by the same scoreline in December 2019 was the first time the Albion had ever won an away game against Arsenal.

The tantrums which followed those four Brighton victories are nothing compared to what we saw here, thanks to Declan Rice receiving a second yellow card early in the second half for kicking the ball away and delaying the restart.

Arsenal fans lost their minds at seeing Rice sent off, even though the England international midfielder admitted afterwards he was in the wrong according to the latter of the law. Which he was.

Brighton took ruthless advantage of the situation. Trailing 1-0 to a first half Kai Havertz goal following a Lewis Dunk mistake, the Albion needed less than 10 minutes to equalise playing against 10 men.

Dunk redeemed himself with a stunning pass out of defence to put Yankubu Minteh in. David Raya saved Minteh’s one-on-one but Joao Pedro was on hand to tuck home the rebound.

Both teams had chances to win it late on. Yasin Ayari and Georginio Rutter were wasteful with opportunties for the Albion. At the other end, Bart Verbruggen saved well from Bukayo Saka and Havertz.

Come the full time whistle and a draw was the right result – although good luck telling Arsenal fans that…
