Mitoma does it again: Brighton 1-0 Bournemouth photos

For the second week running, Kaoru Mitoma is the star of the photos following another late goal which this time helped Brighton see off Plucky Little Bournemouth 1-0 at the Amex.

It was a very different performance from Mitoma compared to the one he gave the previous week when Liverpool were beaten 2-1 in the FA Cup.

On that occasion, his 92nd minute winner came at the end of a dazzling display to which Jurgen Klopp’s Redmen had no answer.

This time around, Mitoma did very little for 85 minutes. Bournemouth double marked him out of the game and it took until the 86th minute for him to have his first shot on target.

60 seconds later and Mitoma struck with his second effort of the afternoon, meeting a Jeremy Sarmiento cross with a bullet head which left Cherries goalkeeper Neto with no chance of keeping it out.

The best players in the world find a way to influence matches even when they are not heavily involved. The best teams in the world find a way to win games even when not at their best.

Mitoma and Brighton did both, securing a rare win over Bournemouth in the process. The Amex went wild when Mitoma found his late winner and the party continued after the full time whistle when the club put on a light show to celebrate.

Victory sets the Albion up nicely for next weekend’s eagerly anticipated trip to Crystal Palace. You have to go back to 2019 to find the last time Brighton beat the Eagles, with Graham Potter unable to mastermind in a single win over Palace in six attempts.

It seems unlikely that as passionate a manager as Roberto De Zerbi will treat the rivalry between the clubs as just another game.

Already an immensely liked figure, De Zerbi’s popularity will go through the roof if he secures a win at Selhurst Park. Bring it on.
