Pedro blows leaking roof off Amex: Brighton 2-1 Man United photos

A 95th minute winner is enjoyable enough at the best of times. But as these photos from Brighton 2-1 Man United show, it is extra special when it comes against opponents renowned for snatching victories right at the death.

Fergie Time, they used to call it. Maybe it should be named Albion Time? Because this is the second occasion in 18 months where the Seagulls have taken all three points off the not-so-mighty United at the Amex with the clock having ticked beyond 90.

An Alexis Mac Allister penalty gave Brighton a 1-0 victory over United back in May 2023, helping Roberto De Zerbi’s side take a big step towards Europa League qualification.

It was Joao Pedro doing the damage this time around, placing a perfect header from a Simon Adingra dink out of reach of Red Devils goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Cue bedlam in the stands and on the pitch. Pedro tore off to the North East corner. Joel Veltman ripped out the corner flag and began waving it around. Lewis Dunk managed to get cramp over zealously celebrating.

What a way for Fabian Hurzeler (the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history) to mark his first home game in charge of the Albion.

The game took some time to get going. So much so that the major talking point from the opening 30 minutes was a very big leak in the West Stand roof, through which rainwater was cascading.

Danny Welbeck was the man to divert attention away from the unintentional water feature. He slid home a Kaoru Mitoma cross to give Brighton the lead and continue his ridiculous record of scoring against his former club.

United had two goals disallowed for offside, as well as registering a legal effort from Amad Diallo. That set the stage for the dramatic conclusion as the Albion made it two wins from two under Hurzeler.
