Tame the Wolves to go top six: Wolves 2-3 Brighton photos

Remember, remember, the fifth of November… with these photos from Molineux where a final score of Wolves 2-3 Brighton saw the Albion climb into the top six of the Premier League.

Rather joyfully, that came at the expense of Graham Potter and his new employers. Seagulls victory over the Old Gold combined with Brighton beating Chelsea 4-1 last week and the Blues’ home defeat to Arsenal on Sunday enabled the Albion to leapfrog their former head coach in the standings.

Victory over Aston Villa at the Amex in the final game before the World Cup next weekend will see Roberto De Zerbi’s side maintain their position going into the winter break.

That would be a phenomenal achievement after the disruption caused by Potter walking and taking his entire backroom staff with him out a little over one month ago.

Slowly but surely, De Zerbi is stamping his mark on this Albion team. They played fast, attacking football against Wolves with players encouraged to run at opponents and shoot whenever there was a sight of goal.

An early effort from 15 yards out from Adam Lallana gave Brighton the lead, although it was short lived. Pervis Estupinan went missing and that gave Goncalo Guedes space to gallop into, advancing into the box from where he beat Robert Sanchez.

A controversial VAR decision saw Lewis Dunk penalised for handball and Wolves awarded a penalty. Seeing as Sanchez cannot save a spot kick for love nor money, the outcome of Reuben Neves converting from 12 yards was all too predictable to put the hosts 2-1 ahead.

Kaoru Mitoma levelled with his first Premier League goal, a lovely header from a Lallana cross. Mitoma was then rugby tackled to the ground by Nelson Semedo in first half stoppage time, leading to a red card for the Wolves right back and his side to face the second 45 minutes with only 10 men.

Chances came and went before Pascal Gross popped up with an 83rd minute winner. The away end went wild and De Zerbi even more, capping another memorable trip to a stadium where Brighton always seem to thrive.
