Albion Photos: Sheffield United 1-1 Brighton, 22/02/20
Photos of the Premier League match between Sheffield United and Brighton and Hove Albion at Bramall Lane on Saturday February 22nd 2020 which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Brighton picked up a hugely impressive point on their first visit to Sheffield United for 14 years, with the photos that our WeAreBrighton.com readers submitted suggesting that this was one of the best away days of the season.
The Albion took to the field to 2000 blue balloons as the travelling support made a mockery of a video posted online during the winter break of four players sucking on balloons in a Tenerife bar.
Sheffield United showed why they are pushing for a Champions League spot as they came flying out the traps. It was all one-way traffic in the opening 15 minutes but unlike in recent months, Brighton managed to weather the storm – helped in part by a change in approach from Graham Potter.
The Blades took the lead with 27 minutes played through Enda Stevens but they weren’t ahead for long. Neal Maupay marked his return to the starting line up with an equaliser just four minutes later after Adam Webster headed down a Aaron Mooy free kick.
Both sides had chances to win it after that. Brighton were denied a clear penalty despite a VAR check when Ezequiel Schelotto’s cross was handled in the box by Ben Osborn.
VAR also incredibly ruled that John Lundstram planting his studs on Lewis Dunk’s thigh in a shattering slide tackle wasn’t a red card either.
At the other end, Maty Ryan made three superb stops to help secure the point, saving twice from Oliver McBurnie and then keeping out a John Fleck header at full stretch in the closing stages.
