A mundane Monday night: Brighton 0-0 Wolves photos

Brighton returned to action following 16 days off for the Premier League winter break and as our photos show, it was a pretty mundane Monday night ending in a 0-0 draw with Wolves at the Amex.

History suggests we should not have been surprised by the outcome. The Albion are yet to win at home on a Monday evening since winning promotion to the Premier League in 2017.

Through the first 15 minutes, it looked like this might be the day that barren run ended. Brighton had the better chances in a frantic, end-to-end opening period which had more than one person in the West Upper predicting a high-scoring affair.

The best of those opportunities fell to Facundo Buonanotte. A delightful corner delivery from Pervis Estupinan made its way to the unmarked Buonanotte at the back post, who only needed to swing a leg at the ball to turn it in.

Instead, the teenager opted for a diving header three yards off the ground. Said diving header lacked power and Wolves were able to clear off the line.

As the game progressed beyond the Buonanotte miss, so the entertainment levels dropped. Brighton lacked width and pace to break Wolves down.

On the rare occasions the Albion did get a sight of goal, they seemed determined not to shoot. Nothing summed that up better than Joao Pedro spinning around in a circle whilst producing a zillion stepovers slap bang in the middle of goal 12 yards out.

Wolves in contrast looked dangerous on the counter. Were it not for two excellent Jason Steele saves and another good piece of goalkeeping in which he charged 30 yards from his line to force Matheus Cunha wide in a one-on-one situation, the visitors might have gone home with all three points.

Before the stalemate at West Ham in their previous top flight outing, Brighton had gone 14 months without being involved in a Premier League 0-0 draw.

Now, they have two in as many matches. How does that saying about London Buses go again?
