Nice sunset, not so nice ending: Spurs 2-1 Brighton photos

It was a case of nice photos of a sunset, not-so-nice finish to the football as Brighton conceded a 96th minute goal to lose 2-1 away at Spurs.

Two of the more attacking sides in the Premier League put on an end-to-end show which the Albion probably deserved something from having dominated a couple of lengthy periods in either half.

Brighton were much the better side through the opening half hour, right from the moment Danny Welbeck had a shot well saved by Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario inside 60 seconds.

The Albion were rewarded for their positive start on 15 minutes. A series of quick one-touch passes between Facundo Buonanotte and Welbeck left the Spurs defence all dizzy, resulting in Dat Guy being kicked to the ground in the box.

With Joao Pedro out injured, penalty talking duty fell to Pascal Gross. Der Kaiser has obviously been taking lessons from Pedro as just like the Brazilian, Gross sent Vicario the wrong way to give Brighton the lead.

They held it through half time and into the second half. Spurs came out all guns blazing after the break and the pressure eventually told when Pape Matar Sarr equalised.

Immediately after the leveller, Ange Postecoglou brought on Son Heung-min from the bench. The introduction of the Tottenham captain combined with the way the hosts had dominated the second half up to that point led many Seagulls supporters to conclude that only one team was winning it from that point… and it wasn’t going to be Brighton.

Yet the Albion rallied to get back on top, missing two big chances to retake the lead. Ansu Fati should have scored a relatively simple opportunity for a player of his quality.

Buonanotte then picked the wrong option when going for goal himself with a shot blocked by Sarr, when the teenager could have squared to the unmarked Tariq Lamptey.

It was Brighton’s continuing search for a winner which proved their downfall. Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke were caught upfield and out of position with 30 seconds left to play, leaving Son to launch a lightning quick counter finished with a far post tap in for Brennan Johnson.

Tottenham had their revenge for the 4-2 defeat inflicted on them by Brighton at the Amex in December. Albion fans had to settle for a decent performance and that lovely sunset.
