Albion fell Tricky Trees: Brighton 1-0 Nottingham Forest photos

Brighton 1-0 Nottingham Forest was hardly a classic to live long in the memory – but we do at least have these photos to remind us of a wet, windy Sunday afternoon at the Amex.

It was one which ended in a much-needed three points for the Albion. After three consecutive defeats, no goals scored, eight shipped and elimination from the FA Cup and in all probability the Europa League, a dull 1-0 was exactly what the doctor ordered.

And for once, Brighton got the rub of the green when it came to refereeing decisions. Forest were incensed that the Albion goal was allowed to stand, feeling that Jakub Moder had impeded either goalkeeper Matz Sels or defender Andrew Omobamidele when attempting to get on the end of a Pascal Gross corner.

The result was Omobamidele heading into his own net. The muted reaction of Albion fans to the goal suggested even the home support were expecting it to be ruled out. VAR looked and concluded nothing was wrong and so referee Michael Robinson awarded the goal.

Whilst that was a 50-50 decision which could have gone either way, there could be no doubting that Jakub Moder was lucky to stay on the pitch after a second half, studs up tackle on Neco Williams.

Again VAR looked and again it found in Brighton’s favour. Although Forest were so toothless going forward that even if the Albion had gone down to 10 for the final 30 minutes, the Tricky Trees would probably not have scored.

The closest they came to equalising was when former Seagulls striker Chris Wood had a low shot tipped around the post at full stretch by Bart Verbruggen.

Brighton looked most dangerous from set pieces. As well as the Gross corner which led to the only goal, Der Kaiser teed up Moder and Ansu Fati for good headed chances neither was able to convert.
