Albion already on the beach: Bournemouth 3-0 Brighton photos

No Albion fan took photos of the actual beach at Bournemouth which is a shame as it would have been more fitting than pictures from the Vitality Stadium given how Brighton performed in their 3-0 defeat to the Cherries.

With their season having petered out into nothingness since the middle of March, Brighton looked like they were on their holidays already. Something even Roberto De Zerbi confirmed in his post-match press conference.

“We are sorry for the performance,” said De Zerbi afterwards. “Injuries are a factor for sure but motivation as well. Motivation in football is 80 per cent of our work.”

“In my time we kept every game a big challenge, a big target. In this moment, too many points from European qualification, we are working for an unclear target but I can’t accept a game without soul.”

Being told your players have given up because European qualification now seems impossible is not exactly what you want to hear as a football fan spending time and money travelling the country to watch.

Aside from Lewis Dunk and Valentin Barco, nobody else in blue and white seemed to care. It was a far cry from 12 months ago, when Brighton won 2-0 at Bournemouth on their way to securing a sixth place finish.

On this occasion, the Seagulls managed just a single shot on target. Bournemouth in contrast were rampant, racking up three goals and a thoroughly deserved victory as their impressive recent form continued.

Marcos Senesi took advantage of typically poor defending from a corner to head the Cherries into a 13th minute lead. Enes Unal doubled the advantage on 52 and a miserable afternoon was rounded off when Justin Kluivert waltzed through the Brighton back line to fire in a third three minutes from time.

As one Albion fan wrote when sending in their photos, the only positive from the afternoon came from Wetherspoons selling beer for 99p before kick off.
