Albion are magic even without Potter: Photos from Leicester 1-1 Brighton

Hands up if you don’t even need a manager to pick up points in the Premier League? Our photos from Leicester 1-1 Brighton feature no Graham Potter or Billy Reid as both missed the trip to the King Power Stadium.

Covid-19 caught up with Albion boss Potter 48 hours before the game. 24 hours prior to kick off and assistant manager Reid also tested positive.

Whereas most other top flight clubs would have tried every trick in the book to get a game in such circumstances called off, Brighton simply got on with it – despite also missing captain Lewis Dunk, vice captain Adam Lallana and influential duo Yves Bissouma and Shane Duffy.

Bjorn Hamberg led the side into battle against Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes. Perhaps unsurprisingly given all the upheaval, Brighton were slow to start and it was Leicester who were the dominant side for the opening hour.

Robert Sanchez had to make a couple of big saves in the first half. The Albion were lucky to make it into the interval still at 0-0 but things did not remain goalless for too long after the break, Patson Daka giving Leicester the lead within 60 seconds of the restart.

Hamberg turned to the Brighton bench on the hour mark, introducing Danny Welbeck and Tariq Lamptey. It had the desired impact as the Albion were outstanding for the final 30 minutes, pinning Leicester back.

Just like in recent away matches against West Ham, Southampton and Chelsea, the Albion conjured up a late equaliser.

Around eight minutes were left on the clock when Welbeck rose to meet a Neal Maupay cross with a powerful header that Kasper Schmeichel could do nothing to keep out.

Brighton might have gone onto win it after that. Dan Burn had an effort cleared off the line before Schmeichel pulled off an utterly outrageous save to deny Leandro Trossard right at the death.

With both sides having had long spells on top, a draw was ultimately the right result. Brighton were no doubt the happier in light of their circumstances, Hamberg proving that the Albion can remain magic even when Potter is not present.
