European Champions outplayed… again: Brighton 1-1 Chelsea photos

For the second time in the space of 20 days, we have a collection of photos from a game where Brighton outplayed European Champions Chelsea and were unlucky to have to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Just as they had been at Stamford Bridge, the Albion were excellent again against the Blues. Not that Thomas Tuchel would agree, the Chelsea manager moaning that his squad with billions of roubles worth of talent was too tired.

Herr Tuchel was also pretty damning of the reaction of the home crowd come the full time whistle for celebrating the draw.

But if football fans of a club who were playing at an athletics stadium in the third tier 11 years ago cannot enjoy holding the Champions of Europe to a draw, then what is the point in us watching the sport? Tuchel was graceless and classless.

Things were going reasonably well for Chelsea at half time as they went into the interval 1-0 ahead. Hakim Ziyech caught Robert Sanchez unawares with a snapshot from outside the area, beating Robert Sanchez at his near post. The Albion goalkeeper probably should have done better.

Brighton did not let trailing against the run of play impact them. They kept plugging away and were rewarded on the hour mark when Kepa Arrizabalaga made an outrageous one handed save to claw an Alexis Mac Allister drive out of the bottom corner.

The danger was not over. From the resulting corner, Mac Allister swung over a delivery met by a thumping header from Adam Webster to equalise.

Although Chelsea finished the stronger, Sanchez barely had a save to make. Nobody could argue that the Albion deserved a point – like when it finished Chelsea 1-1 Brighton at Stamford Bridge last month – unless your name happened to be Tuchel.

In which case, you were just a sore loser. Or drawer.
