Albion fall at Forest: Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brighton photos
Rarely in this most memorable of football seasons so far have we had photos recording back-to-back defeats but that was the fate that befell Brighton at the City Ground, where they went down 3-1 to Nottingham Forest.
The Albion losing did not come entirely as a surprise. Forest are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table and the home support created the most raucous atmosphere Brighton have experienced on the road since the FA Cup quarter final away at Millwall in 2019.
Ah yes, the FA Cup. That particular competition provided another reason to excuse defeat to the Tricky Trees.
Just 72 hours earlier and Brighton had gone through 120 gruelling minutes against Manchester United at Wembley, followed by the heartbreak of semi final elimination because of one missed penalty kick.
Unsurprisingly, the Albion looked physically and mentally exhausted by the full time whistle at the City Ground. Brighton had started brightly enough, although they needed Jason Steele to save a Brennan Johnson penalty inside the opening 10 minutes to avoid falling behind.
Argentine teenager Facundo Buonanotte marked his full Premier League debut by giving the Albion the lead seven minutes before half time, following up a Solly March shot spilled by Keylor Navas for a tap in.
Forest managed to find an equaliser in the short time remaining until the break, the unfortunate Pascal Gross deflecting a cross past Steele for an own goal.
Had Forest not gone into half time level, then things might have turned out definitely. The hosts returned to the field for the second 45 minutes with a spring in their step and as Brighton began to fade, the Tricky Trees were perfectly poised to take advantage.
Danilo ran clear to beat Steele after Moises Caicedo was uncharacteristically sloppy in possession and Morgan Gibbs-White secured the three points for Forest via a 90th minute penalty, awarded after Lewis Dunk inexplicably attempted to catch a corner.
