Biggest heist since Hatton Garden: Spurs 2-1 Brighton photos

Spurs 2-1 Brighton was the biggest heist London has seen since Hatton Garden and we have captured the crime in all its gory glory with these photos from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Albion had two goals disallowed, two penalty appeals turned down and Roberto De Zerbi was sent off despite appearing to act as the peacemaker in a spot of handbags between the two benches.

For the third time this season, PGMOL chief Howard Webb found himself phoning the Amex the day after a Brighton game to apologise to the Seagulls for mistakes made by his officials which cost goals and points.

Albion supporters could have been forgiven for thinking they had seen it all when VAR drew their offside lines from the wrong Crystal Palace defender, ruling out a perfectly good Pervis Estupinan goal as Brighton drew 1-1 at Crystal Palace.

The performance of referee Stuart Attwell, his assistants and the team at Stockley Park on this occasion was somehow even worse.

Kaoru Mitoma was first to see a goal chalked off with 10 minutes played when one of the assistant referees rewrote the rules of biology by ruling that the upper shoulder is now part of the arm and flagging for handball.

Son Heung-min compounded Brighton misery by scoring a superb effort shortly after for his 100th goal in a Spurs shirt.

Captain fantastic Lewis Dunk powered home a header from a Solly March corner. You suspect that Mr Attwell and VAR were trying to find any excuse to disallow that but Dunk’s towering effort was legal in every sense.

A second half Danny Welbeck shot hit the thigh of Alexis Mac Allister on its way to beating Hugo Lloris, which is apparently now also a handball offence.

Mitoma was brought down in the box and should have had a penalty and then Dunk was wrestled to the ground in the box. Both times, neither VAR or Mr Attwell were interested.

Between those two incidents came the Spurs winner, scored by who else but Harry Kane? The England captain loves a goal against Brighton.

There could be little doubt on this occasion that the three points it delivered was totally underserved, leaving the Albion an uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League.
