How did the Albion lose that? Brighton 0-1 Fulham photos
If Sussex Police are reading this, then please feel free to use these photos from Brighton 0-1 Fulham in your investigation into the daylight robbery committed at the Amex Stadium on Saturday 18th February 2022.
The Albion enjoyed 66 percent possession. Had 17 shots of which seven were on target. And registered an xG of 2.3.
Fulham in contrast defended for 90 minutes. Their time wasting antics meant the ball could not have spent any more than an hour in play.
They managed two shots all afternoon. In a throwback to the 2020-21 Covid season under Graham Potter, Brighton contrived to concede from one of those in the 88th minute on their way to defeat.
Maybe we should not have been surprised. Since the 2016-17 campaign, Fulham have become something of a bogey team for the Albion.
The Cottagers have kept clean sheets against Brighton in the past four meetings between the clubs. The last time the Albion scored past Fulham was January 2019, when they lost 4-2 at Craven Cottage despite having led 2-0 going into half time.
It was a defeat which kick started the terrible run of form that ultimately cost Chris Hughton his job as Brighton were led on a merry dance by Aleksandar Mitrovic.
If the Albion thought that the absence via injury of their Serbian tormentor would mean a change in fortune against Fulham, then they were to be disappointed.
Carlos Vinícius did a passable impression of Mitrovic in shrugging off a Joel Veltman challenge to hold up the ball on halfway and release Manor Solomon down the Brighton right.
With the Seagulls having pushed forward in search of a winner, Solomon had 50 yards of space to gallop into. Once he had made it into the Brighton box, he clinically beat Robert Sanchez to steal three points for the visitors.
Roberto De Zerbi was shown a red card in the tunnel after the final whistle and whilst it would be easy to pin the blame on bad officiating from Darren England, Mr England was not responsible for Brighton missing so many chances.
A bad day at the office for the Albion, who will be wondering how they lost for quite some time.
