US tour ends in New Jersey defeat: Brighton 1-2 Newcastle photos

Brighton 1-2 Newcastle United meant the Summer Series ended with defeat on the pitch, but off it Albion fans certainly enjoyed themselves if these photos are anything to go by.

New York City rolled out the red carpet, from fan events to an entire cocktail menu named after Brighton players. If you had ever dreamt of drinking a Kaoru Mitoma, a Pascal Gross or a Danny Welbeck, then the Big Apple was the place to be.

Some Albion fans took the chance to visit the side of the World Trade Centre to pay their respects to those killed on 9/11 and in particular, lifelong Seagulls supporter Robert Eaton.

Then it was onto Red Bull Arena, a short journey away in New Jersey. Brighton could have won the Summer Series with victory over Newcastle and other results going their way (although nobody seems to know how or why given the format made little sense).

And for 86 minutes, it looked like three points were going to be banked to go with the 2-0 victory over Brentford in Atlanta 48 hours earlier.

Danny Welbeck put the Albion 1-0 ahead early in the second half, the least Brighton deserved having dominated the game up to that point.

The hour mark saw Roberto De Zerbi make wholesale changes. All 10 outfield players were swapped in a 20 minute period, resulting in the Seagulls losing their rhythm and ending the contest with an entire team under the age of 23.

Six of those were development squad players with little to no experience of the Premier League. Their naivety ultimately cost Brighton as Elliot Anderson took advantage of two defensive errors to score twice in six minutes to help the Saudi Sportswasher come from behind and win.
