Player of the Month May 2018
Three games against
the Premier League top three made May a difficult
month for Brighton and Hove Albion but they secured
their top flight safety with a fantastic 1-0 win
over Manchester United, the game which has provided
the bulk of our shortlist for the last Player of the
Month vote of the season |
|
Player of the Month April 2018
No wins in April but
three draws ensured that barring some sort of
mathematical miracle below the Albion in the Premier
League table, we should be looking at playing top
flight football again next season ahead of our
penultimate Player of the Month poll of the campaign |
|
Player of the Month March 2018
March began in such
promising fashion as the Albion finally defeated one
of the Premier League's big six with a 2-1 win over
Arsenal but there have been no points and no goals
since then, meaning our Player of the Month list is
very defence orientated |
|
Player of the Month
- February 2018
An unbeaten February
saw the Albion march into the quarter finals of the
FA Cup and climb to the the dizzy heights of 11th in
the Premier League, just three wins shy of the
magical 40 points total. There were goals, penalty
saves & entertainment galore... |
|
Player of the Month
- January 2018
There may have been no
league wins in January, but the Albion made solid
progress into round five of the FA Cup and picked up
what could prove to be two valuable points against
fellow strugglers. One man hit four goals in six
games, but that wasn't enough to win the prize... |
|
Player of the Month - December 2017
Another five points
were added to the Albion's total thanks to a victory
at home to Watford and draws against Burnley and
Newcastle United. Having scored only twice in
November, it means that the short list is pretty
defensive orientated. |
|
Player of the Month - November 2017
We managed to secure five
points out of 12 in November with an excellent win
away at Swansea and battling draws with Stoke and
Crystal Palace. A decent month then, and it led to
the biggest winning margin of the season so far in
our Player of the Month awards. |
|
Player of the Month - October 2017
Brighton got their
first away win of the season on the board in
emphatic style with a 3-0 success at West Ham United
and there were two draws and a defeat in the other
October games. The defence again impressed, but who
claimed the Player of the Month crown by just 1.7%? |
|
Player of the Month - September 2017
Two wins from three
league games saw the Albion get their Premier League
campaign up and running. One man was involved in all
five of the goals scored in September, yet
remarkably he didn't pick up the award with it going
instead to another attacking option. |
|
Player of the Month - August 2017
Our first Player of
the Month poll as a Premier League club is very
defence orientated, which will come as little
surprise given that we are yet to score a goal so
far this season. It features four defenders and one
midfielder, all of whom have looked comfortable in
the top flight so far |
|
Player of the Month - April 2017
Five consecutive wins at the start of April ensured
it was job done and promotion to the Premier League
was in the bag. Two pretty poor defeats followed but
frankly, it doesn't really matter. So who will be
crowned our final Player of the Month as a
Championship side? |
|
Player of the Month - March 2017
The international break meant Brighton played just
four times in March with two wins and two defeats.
There were injuries aplenty throughout the month,
particularly in defence, which means a number of new
faces make the shortlist for the Player of the Month
award. |
|
Player of the Month - February 2017
Brighton slipped from top spot as they took only 11
points from a possible 21 in their worst month of
the season so far. Despite the doom and gloom and
talk of Seagulls choking, there were some stand out
moments as one player took 50% of the vote to win... |
|
Player of the Month - January 2017
Despite January not being the best month in terms of
performances on the pitch, the Albion still ended it
at the head of the Championship table. That was
largely thanks to one mans penalty saving heroics
which made this Player of the Month
vote something of a formality... |
|
Player of the Month - December 2016
Rafa Benitez attempted to increase the mind games on
the Albion by insisting the pressure was all on
them as the new Championship leaders. It didn't
work, 13 points from a possible 15 while not playing
particularly well ensuring it was a defence heavy
top three voted for. |
|
Player of the Month - November 2016
The international break meant that just three games
were played in November, but it was another three
without defeat for the Albion although they made
hard work of picking up four points from their two
home games. All of that leaves one of the closest
votes we've ever had. |
|
Player of the Month - October 2016
An unbeaten month including the result of the season
with a 5-0 thrashing of Norwich sent Brighton three
points clear in second place of the table. Just
three goals were conceded and that leaves a defence
heavy shortlist for a hotly contested October Player
of the Month award. |
|
Player of the Month - September 2016
Four consecutive clean sheets in the league to round
off September means that the Player of the Month
shortlist is dominated by the back four and
goalkeeper. And it was two members of that back four
who feature in our top three. |
|
Player of the Month - August 2016
Any worries of a play off hangover were pretty much
banished as Brighton began the season with two
convincing home wins, two draws on the road and a
defeat at Newcastle, as well as swift progress for
the stiffs in the EFL Cup. But who shone as Player
of the Month? |
|
Player of the Month - April 2016
The automatic promotion race will go down to the
last game of the season after five wins and one draw
out of six saw the Albion, Burnley and Middlesbrough
locked together. That form means a bumper shortlist
of 10 for what we are hoping will be our last Player of
the Month poll... |
|
Player of the Month - March 2016
An unbeaten March, just one goal conceded and two
wins put Brighton up to second in the table as we
reach the business end of the season. With such a
formidable defensive record, it will come as no
surprise to see that March's top three is dominated
by the back five. |
|
Player of the Month - February 2016
Brighton put themselves well back into contention
for automatic promotion with a big haul of 13 points
from a possible 18 over February. A bumper shortlist
of 11 candidates was whittled down with the top
three featuring the three players who were rested
for the heavy defeat at Cardiff. Coincidence? |
|
Player of the Month -
January 2016
It was a mixed January for Brighton with the month
beginning with the team unable to score a goal for
love nor money, let alone win a match. Yet it ended
with back-to-back victories and two new faces and
one very old one making the top three of the Player
of the Month poll. |
|
Player of the Month -
December 2015
The Brighton and Hove Albion we all know and love
returned in December as they fell from top to
fourth, winning just once and not scoring in the
final three games of the month. That means it is a
short shortlist for the final Player of the Month
poll of 2015 and in the end, a convincing winner. |
|
Player of the Month - November 2015
Brighton and Hove Albion are back at the top of the
pile after another month of solid performances saw
them remain unbeaten. Two wins and two draws were
secured in November and, just like in the previous
month, it was another ridiculously tight
vote given the consistency shown. |
|
Player of the Month - October 2015
The Curse of October has been banished as Brighton
end the month unbeaten and still top. As injuries
and suspensions began to bite the squad was tested
thoroughly throughout the month, which led to just
6% separating first and fifth in our Player of the
Month vote. |
|
Player of the Month - September 2015
Two months into the season and Brighton remain both
unbeaten and top of the league. Injuries and
suspensions have begun testing Chris Hughton's side
a little now yet they continue to roll. There are
plenty of solid claims to September's Player of the
Month prize. |
|
Player of the Month - August 2015
Well bugger me. Who'd have thought Brighton would be
sitting at the top of the table, three points clear
and unbeaten in the league through the opening
month? Certainly not us. And that form meant a
bumper Player of the Month shortlist - but there was
only ever going to be one winner... |
|
Player of the Month - April 2015
One point out of a possible 18 meant the Albion had
to rely on Blackburn beating Millwall to finally
confirm their spot in the Championship for next
season. And that dire run of form makes choosing a
player of the month comparable to selecting which
limb you'd like removed. |
|
Player of the Month - March 2015
A
good March saw the Albion pull ten points clear of
the drop zone to (touch wood) all but guarantee a
place in the Championship for next season. There
were plenty of good performances throughout the
month, making it very tight at the top. |
|
Player of the Month -
February 2015
Three clean sheets, a stunning victory in a seven
goal thriller and one of the best performances at
The Amex in the last couple of seasons. February had
it all but there was one man who stood out from the
crowd with his goal scoring exploits - despite being
a right back by trade. |
|
Player of the Month - January 2015
Things have improved markedly since Chris Hughton's
appointment as Albion boss and that couldn't be made
clearer than the fact that the January Player of the
Month shortlist contains five men who had been
nobodies for the opening half of the season. |
|
Player of the Month - December 2014
Sami Hyypia resigned and bloody hell, we picked up
four points. The battle against relegation is well
and truly on although in December it did seem to be
fought by players who aren't even ours, not that the
results of the Player of the Month show that. |
|
Player of the Month - November 2014
Three games unbeaten and even that rare thing called
a win couldn't prevent the Albion from slipping into
the relegation zone come the end of November. Still,
at least we started scoring some goals although it
is a young man at the other end of the pitch who
impressed the month. |
|
Player of the Month - October 2014
A
winless October for a fourth year in a row sent the
Albion closer to the Championship relegation zone.
That mades the shortlist for Player of the Month
particularly bare with defenders dominating, and
there was little surprise as to the winners identity
with 79% of the vote going to one man. |
|
Player of the Month - August 2014
August didn't get off to the best of starts but a
host of new arrivals saw Sami Hyypia end his first
month in charge with a four game unbeaten run. Two
of those new signings featured in the shortlist for
August Player of the Month, but it was a familiar
face who took the crown. |
|
Player of the Month - April 2014
An unbeaten April ensures that the race for the play
offs will go down to the final day of the season.
Shock horror, some positive football took place
this month including a hammering dished out to
champions Leicester. And it was one of those
attacking stars taking the crown of Player of the
Month. |
|
Player of the Month -
March 2014
The way some fans were carrying on you'd think the
season was over and we were heading for relegation.
But three wins in March keeps the Albion in the race
for that final play off spot and it resulted in a
first ever Player of the Month accolade for the
winner of our poll. |
|
Player of the Month -
February 2014
Two victories, two draws and three defeats across
all competitions with five goals scored - and all of
those coming from one man. You could be forgiven for
thinking that our Player of the Month Award for
February is going to be the most predictable poll
outside of a Zimbabwean election. |
|
Player of the Month - January 2014
Still in the play off hunt and into round five of
the FA Cup while playing a few fringe players was a
good month for the Albion, especially with the squad
stretched to it's limits with injuries and
departures. And the performances of one man softened
one of those departures somewhat - Liam who? |
|
Player of the Month - November 2013
An unbeaten November followed a typically ghastly
October as the Albion picked up 10 points out of a
possible 12. That was largely down the excellence of
one man who played a pivotal role between the sticks
to take a richly deserved Player of the Month crown. |
|
Player of the Month -
October 2013
Another October, another month in which the Albion
fail to win a game for the third year running. That
meant that while our deserved winner was the man who
hit 33% of the teams goals in the month, the shock
runners up spot went to somebody who doesn't even
player for Brighton. |
|
Player of the Month -
September 2013
It's a month that has been dominated by the defence
with two impressive clean sheets away from home
against two favourites for promotion. That is
reflected in an extremely defensive orientated
selection for the top three capped by a victory for
a right back. Hint - it isn't Bruno. |
|
Player of the Month - August 2013
A
decent start to the season given all the fun and
games of the summer but there was only really going
to be one man who won Player of the Month wasn't
there? And he won it by a record margin while two
players who have never appeared in the top three
before also make their debuts. |
|
Player of the Month - May 2013
May 2013 is no doubt a month most Albion fans would
rather forget. Only one man scored in it and he
barely featured in the play-offs despite playing a
big part in tearing Palace to pieces just two months
previously. So there are no prizes for guessing our
Player of the Month winner. |
|
Player of the Month - April 2013
Three wins, three draws, a record Amex victory, a
first ever at the Riverside Stadium and a play-off
place booked represented an excellent April for the
Albion. And it was an Italian Spaniard who is
severely underrated in our eyes finally getting some
recognition with a Player of the Month award. |
|
Player of the Month - March 2013
Only two wins in March but that really didn't matter
as the Albion secured a first home victory over
Crystal Palace in 25 years. There was only going to
be one winner this month but even his margin of
victory surprised us - who's that man from
Argentina? |
|
Player of the Month - February 2013
One defeat and three clean sheets out of five games
propelled the Albion back into the top six. It
came with the arrival of two new men and the
return of one other from his traditional winter
hibernation. Yet it was a man who was a villain at
the end of January who responded in the best way
possible |
|
Player of the Month - January 2013
Only the formidable might of Arsenal were able to
defeat Brighton in January as Gus Poyet's men made a
decent start to 2013. A number of players showed
they could compete with two Premier League sides in
the Gunners and Newcastle - but it was a familiar
face who won for a third time
running. |
|
Player of the Month - December 2012
A
winless December was arguably the worst month of Gus
Poyet's reign thus far. Just two points were taken,
just three players got their names on the score
sheet and the less said about another embarrassing
performance against Palace the better. |
|
Player of the Month - November 2012
Three wins and three draws represented a decent
November, although it could have been so much better
if we could defend for an entire game rather than
just the standard 90 minutes and not thrown away
four points because of it. |
|
Player of the Month - October 2012
We only scored twice in October and even Gus came
out and said he was bored by it. Not hard to imagine
then that, just like last month, it's a result that
is dominated by the back five and one man in
particular who rescued us points across the board
and took 79% of the vote as a result. |
|
Player of the Month - September 2012
Four wins, one defeat and a raft of new players
making a big impact as the Albion ended the month at
the top of the Championship. It was form built on a
solid defence which you've recognised with three of
the back five taking the top spots - and we even
needed a Tweet off to separate second and third. |
|
Player of the Month - August 2012
A
5-1 demolition of Barnsley was a good way to end the
month after it opened with embarrassment in the
COCup at Swindon. Gus has been a busy man in the
summer transfer window and it looks like his work is
getting the seal of approval with two new signings
making the top three. |
|
Player of the Month - April 2012
Six games, no wins and only three goals scored put
an end to the Albion's play-off hopes. Two men who might have
made their final appearances in the stripes are in
the top three, which would be a more than fine way
for Vicente and Alan Navarro to end their Seagull
careers. |
|
Player of the Month - March 2012
Another month with only one defeat in it saw the
Albion move into their highest position since
September of fourth, despite only winning twice. And
both of those victories were inspired by one man,
who unsurprisingly tops the charts for March. Ole
ole ole. |
|
Player of the Month - February 2012
Brighton remained unbeaten through the month of
February in the league with defeat only coming in
the form of the comedyfending game at Liverpool in
the FA Cup. Barring that game, the defence has been
superb which is reflected in the three defensive
players that make up the top positions in the
results. |
|
Player of the Month - January 2012
An unbeaten January saw the Albion put themselves
into play-off contention as well as progressing to
the fifth round of the FA Cup. Several fringe
players stepped up to the mark as Gus shook up his
pack after that awful December but that didn't stop
Mr Last Minute Goal racking up 75% of the votes. |
|
Player of the Month - December 2011
Will Buckley was the only man to hit the target in
December for the Albion with that dramatic last
minute winner against Nottingham Forest. Mr Pawson's performance in the
middle against Burnley obviously didn't help matters
but it made picking a Player of the Month all the
more difficult. |
|
Player of the Month - November 2011
Three wins and two defeats represented an
improvement on October's form as the Seagulls soared
into seventh place. A couple of players who wouldn't
have expected to play such key roles did in the
upturn in form while the excellent defensive record
means two defenders make the top three. |
|
Player of the Month - October 2011
A
tough run of fixtures against some of the divisions
bigger sides saw the Albion winless in October and
picking up just three points from a possible 15. But
the most damning verdict comes in the fact a man who
signed with just two weeks left of the month has
been voted the second best player of it. |
|
Player of the Month - September 2011
One win in September and five league points out of a
possible twelve saw the Albion bought back down to
earth with a bump with that defeat against Crystal
Palace obviously hurting the most. But who has been
your star performer in September? The results are
in. |
|
Player of the Month - August 2011
Unbeaten so far with a Premier League scalp in the
Carling Cup and sitting pretty at the top of the
nPower Championship. It hasn't been a bad first
month at The Amex really. And it's been a
particularly good one for one little chap with
Liverpool who has taken home our first ever Player
of the Month award. |
