Perfect way to secure PL safety: Brighton 1-0 Man United photos

Could there have been a better way for the Albion to secure a second season of Premier League football than this? Brighton 1-0 Man United will go down as one of the most famous nights at the Amex Stadium and we have the photos to prove it.

When the Seagulls entered the top flight back in August, must assumed that their stay would be brief. Chris Hughton and his players however have defied the odds, growing with confidence in each passing game to the point whereby they now have a victory over Arsenal and three points from Manchester United at the Amex to their name.

The stadium was rocking on Friday night, fuelled by most Albion fans having enjoyed a long drinking session in the build up.

Brighton were much the better side for the entire 90 minutes and even a serial moaner like Jose Mourinho could not have any complaints about the outcome.

Pascal Gross scored the only goal of the game with a second half header that had a little assistance from goal line technology.

The noise and scenes when referee Craig Pawson confirmed that the ball had crossed the line for Gross’ seventh goal of the season will live long in the memory.

Gross has now been involved in 45 percent of the Albion’s goals in the 2017-18 season, either through scoring or assisting.

There has not been a better bargain buy in the Premier League this season than his £3 million capture from Ingolstadt.

Brighton embarked on a lap of honour afterwards to mark the final home game of the campaign and the confirmation of their place in the top flight for 2018-19.

For all those in the crowd who used to go to school in Sussex in the 1990s surrounded by glory hunting Man United fans, seeing the Red Devils vanquished in front of a packed Amex was surreal – and yet another reminder of how just how far the Albion have come over the past 20 years.

Onwards and upwards.
