It’s Fergie time: Brighton 3-1 Newcastle United photos

Are these photos from Brighton 3-1 Newcastle United? Or are these phots from the Evan Ferguson show?

The Irish teenager became just the fourth 18-year-old to score a Premier League hat-trick with a sensational treble that meant the Saudi Sportswashers beheaded home with zero points.

Ferguson’s first goal was a classic poacher’s finish, showing quick reactions after Nick Pope spilled a piledriver from Billy Gilmour.

The second came via unerring accuracy, Ferguson picking out the bottom corner from 30 yards with a powerful right footed drive which left Pope grasping at air.

And whilst there was an element of fortune surrounding the fourth thanks to a deflection off Fabian Schar, the quick feet and close control Ferguson displayed to make room a shot were seriously impressive.

Callum Wilson pulled one back late on for the Toon Army but it was too little, too late. The Albion were deserved winners in the sunshine of a glorious September evening.

Whilst Ferguson took the headlines, other individuals played their part. Gilmour was superb sitting in front of the back four, looking every bit the heir to Moises Caicedo.

After Adam Webster endured something of a nightmare in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham last week, Jan Paul van Hecke took over at centre back.

The Dutch defender made a vital intervention in the first couple of minutes on Alexander Isak, setting the tone for a domineering performance alongside Lewis Dunk.

Roberto De Zerbi made one other change to his defence. Joel Veltman came in for James Milner with the right side of the Brighton back line looking much tighter as a result.

Ominously for the rest of the Premier League, the Albion will become even stronger after the international break.

New signings Carlos Baleba and Ansu Fati were introduced to the Amex crowd and watched on for the stands. It is frightening to think what they will bring to the party.
