No gold at end of rainbow for Albion: Brighton 0-3 Arsenal photos
On the day when Brighton 0-3 Arsenal inflicted the worst home defeat of the season on the Albion, Mother Nature provided some of the best photos from a Seagulls home game of the campaign so far.
A glorious rainbow and orange sky appeared over the Falmer area at the full time whistle, rewarding those who had not left the stadium early due to Brighton being well beaten by the title challenging Gunners.
Arsenal needed a controversial penalty to take the lead just past the half hour mark. Tariq Lamptey got a touch of the ball but not enough to divert it away from Gabriel Jesus, who found himself wiped out when he looked likely to retain possession and advance towards goal.
It was one of those decisions which seemed to split Albion fans down the middle. Tellingly perhaps, Roberto De Zerbi said afterwards he thought it was a spot kick.
Bakayo Sako duly converted from 12 yards before celebrating in front of the North Stand. Hopefully, he remains that clinical and confident should England require penalties at the Euros this summer.
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya made his only meaningful save of the game on the stroke of half time from a Julio Enciso distance drive.
That did at least seem to inspire Brighton into life and the Albion enjoyed a decent spell at the start of the second half.
The game though was very much up when Arsenal added their second. Enciso gave away possession in a dangerous position, the Gunners swept forward and Kai Havertz converted from close range.
Leandro Trossard rubbed salt into the wounds on his first appearance at the Amex since going on strike to force through a move from Brighton to Arsenal.
The Vampire of Genk ran from inside his own half and dinked Bart Verbruggen, completing a role reversal from when Brighton beat Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates last May to end the Gunners’ title hopes.
