Pyro and table topping: Brighton 1-0 The Leeds United photos
The pyro displays that have greeted the Albion at their first two home matches of the campaign have split opinion. One thing that cannot be in doubt though is that they look pretty good through the lens of a camera, as our photos from Brighton 1-0 The Leeds United show.
An explosion of blue and white from in front of the East Stand left a cloud of smoke billowing across the Amex as the game was about to kick off.
We have had one-off fireworks displays before, usually to celebrate Rainbow Laces day. Nobody knows yet if the new blue and white pyro is a permanent addition at the Amex
Brighton have frequently threatened to ban any supporters who bring in pyros, saying they are dangerous and it is inconsiderate to fellow supporters with asthma and other breathing conditions.
The irony of the club now putting on a fireworks display that would make Guy Fawkes blush from in front of the young lungs of the family stand has not been lost on anyone.
Still, people will not be complaining if the pyro leads to continuing fireworks on the pitch from the Albion. A 1-0 win over the 1996 Coca Cola Cup runners made it three wins and a draw from the opening four matches of the 2022-23 campaign, leaving Brighton third in the Premier League by the end of Saturday evening.
For four glorious minutes after Pascal Gross scored the only goal, the Seagulls even topped the table. A billion screenshots were taken before Crystal Palace of all teams ruined the fun, allowing Manchester City to take the lead at the Etihad Stadium and climb above the Albion.
Still, it was fun whilst it lasted. Hopefully, Brighton will be back in first spot again soon. Whether supporters are as keen to see the pre-game pyro return to the Amex is up for debate.
