The West Ham run goes on: West Ham 0-2 Brighton photos

Can we play the Hammers every week? Sure, it would make for a pretty boring set of photos facing the same side but West Ham 0-2 Brighton served as the latest reminder that the Albion would be Premier League champions if they took on the Irons in 38 games a season.

Since the Seagulls soared into the Premier League for the 2017-18 season, they have faced West Ham 11 times. The Hammers are yet to win once, despite finishing above Brighton in the table in four of the five campaigns the clubs have been in the top flight together.

This latest Albion three points against West Ham came via a surprisingly clinical display from Graham Potter’s men. They had just two shots on target all afternoon and yet scored them both.

An even bigger surprise was that the opening goal came from a successful penalty. Alexis Mac Allister converted from the spot to give Brighton a first half lead after Danny Welbeck had been felled just inside the penalty area.

West Ham came out at the start of the second half in determined mood to get back into the game. The Albion had to weather a bit of a storm before a tactical tweak from Potter saw them break the hosts’ dominance.

Shortly after Brighton switched to a back four, Pascal Gross produced a lovely flick to send Leandro Trossard galloping clear. The Vampire of Genk made no mistake, beating Lukasz Fabianski one-on-one to double the advantage.

Robert Sanchez had to make two excellent saves in the space of 60 seconds from Hammers headers to preserve the win. The three points lifted Brighton into fifth in the table, maintained their unbeaten start and means that they are yet to concede a goal to an opponent.

Sanchez and his backline have been breached so far only by Mac Allister putting through his own net in the opening day 2-1 win at Manchester United.

Is it too early to be talking about European tours?
