Winning way on Rainbow Laces Day: Brighton 2-1 Brentford photos

Rainbow Laces Day always provides some brilliant photos and 2023 was no exception, with the added bonus that Brighton beat Brentford 2-1 to secure their first home Premier League win for over two months.

You had to go back to Brighton 3-1 Plucky Little Bournemouth at the end of September to find the last time the Albion picked up three points at the Amex.

Goals from Pascal Gross and Jack Hinshelwood ensured that barren run was ended, Brighton coming from behind after Bryan Mbeumo had put the Bees ahead from the penalty spot.

A rail strike meant no trains were calling at Falmer Station and that had a big impact on attendance, with swathes of empty seats across the Amex. Fair play to whoever it was who managed to announce a crowd in excess of 30,000 with a straight face.

Those who did make the effort to get there were treated to a lovely display of pyrotechnics before kick off, firing all the colours from the rainbow flag into the night sky.

With sad predictability, this did not go down well with the thousands of fans the Albion have picked up from countries across the world which are, how shall we say it, backwards?

The number of homophobic comments on posts from the club about Rainbow Laces day makes you wonder if these people are aware they support a club representing Brighton & Hove, the gay capital of England?

An evening on St James’ Street would be quite the eye opener, especially if it involved a drag queen belting out “All I want for Christmas” in the middle of July on stage in Affinity Bar.

Anyway, all of that homophobia probably makes for another WAB article for another time. For now, just enjoy these photos of a rare Brighton league home victory.
