Cheer up, Pep: Brighton 3-2 Man City photos from the stands

The best photos taken by fans of the Premier League match between Brighton and Man City at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday 18th May 2021 which ended in a shock 3-2 win for the Albion.

Nature is healing people, nature is healing. For the first time in 15 months, a significantly sized crowd of 7,945 were allowed to watch Brighton at the Amex and the return of supporters to the terraces could not have gone any better.

Okay, things did not start particularly well when İlkay Gündoğan put Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions 1-0 ahead inside of three minutes…. spend 180 seconds too long ordering a Bovril on the concourse and you would have missed the first goal scored in front of a supporters since December’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

Even when João Cancelo saw red before 10 minutes had been played, the Albion faced an uphill battle to take anything from the game. Again, we refer you to that pre-Christmas clash with a Blades outfit who played for over an hour short-handed and were only denied a victory by Danny Welbeck’s 87th minute equaliser.

When Phil Foden made it 2-0 within four minutes of the restart – there seems to be a pattern here – it looked like game over. Brighton though had other ideas and what followed was one of the most memorable halves of football the Amex has ever seen.

Those 7,945 suddenly sounded like 79,450. As the crowd roared, Leandro Trossard pulled one back. And then Adam Webster equalised. And then Dan Burn scored what proved to be the winner.

City were shocked, Pep stormed off refusing to shake Graham Potter’s hand and Brighton had a famous win over the best side in England.

If you were there, consider yourself very lucky. If you were not, then hopefully these photos capture something of what was a fantastic night for the Seagulls.
