Peril whenever Albion wear yellow: Man City 3-0 Brighton photos

Any sane football fan knows that as big a part of winning matches as having the better players is whether your club is wearing a lucky kit. Our photos from Man City 3-0 Brighton show that the Albion never stood a chance at the Etihad Stadium.

12 times now Brighton have worn their yellow third choice shirt over the past two seasons and not once have they won in 90 minutes.

Zero victories, three draws and nine defeats is the record of a kit which will go down as one of the worst in Seagulls history.

The good news is that this is the last time we will have our door darkened by the yellow peril. The club confirmed on Twitter before the game that it was going in the bin afterwards, much to the relief of Albion fans everywhere.

After a 2-1 win at Arsenal and a 1-0 win at Spurs in the space of seven days, Brighton looked for 45 minutes at least like they might be able to pull off another surprise result and hold the champions to a draw.

City fans became increasingly frustrated as the first half wore on, a dogged Albion display keeping them at bay.

Moises Caicedo was central to this, the 20-year-old midfielder making two outrageous blocks having read the danger like a seasoned professional rather than a chap making only his third Premier League start.

Unfortunately, lady luck deserted Brighton in the second half as City scored via two deflections. Riyad Mahrez benefited from a wicked ricochet off Joel Veltman which defied Robert Sanchez on 58 minutes.

On 65, it was the turn of Phil Foden. The England forward loves scoring against the Albion and his fifth career goal past the Seagulls arrived via a distance drive that deflected off the foot of Enock Mwepu.

The game was up at that point, so it did not really matter when a poor Sanchez clearance led to Bernardo Silva grabbing a third.

Brighton mustered just one shot on target all evening, Danny Welbeck heading too close to Ederson from a Pascal Gross delivery.

Upon the full time whistle, City fans went home happy having seen their team climb above Liverpool and back to the top of the Premier League. Albion supporters made the long trip back south pleased that they will never see their side in that yellow kit again.
