30,362 see Albion put to the Wolves: Photos from Brighton 0-1 Wolves

The problem with photos is that they can very quickly prove that something is being made up – just ask Boris Johnson or the attendance figure of 30,362 given for Brighton 0-1 Wolves.

Our erstwhile Prime Minister has spent the past few weeks denying that any Christmas parties took place in 10 Downing Street and if they did, none broke the rules. The Daily Mirror then get hold of a photo from the party and it is proven that Johnson is talking bullshit. Again.

The Albion meanwhile maintained their policy of using tickets sold rather than actual physical bodies coming through the turnstiles to make up an attendance figure for the Wolves game.

This resulted in the most farcical discrepancy between announced attendance and empty seats of the Amex era so far. 30,362 was the official figure – give or take 10 thousand or so, as our pictures from the visit of the Old Gold show.

Even the BT Sport commentary were moved to comment on the discrepancy between apparent crowd number and empty seats, it being such a blindingly obvious fabrication.

Those 20,000 or so who were willing to venture to the Amex at a time when the omicron variant is running wild – and risk having to isolate for Christmas – were rewarded for their dedication with the worst Brighton performance of the season.

Whilst the Albion were hit by a combination of injuries, suspension and Covid-19, the team that Graham Potter selected was still good enough to put up a fight against a Wolves outfit who had not scored for over seven hours.

Brighton though were toothless and lethargic, not helped by the ground being only two-thirds full, creating an atmosphere that felt like a pre-season friendly.

Romain Saiss scored the only goal after some typically poor Albion marking from a corner. It could and should have been more, Robert Sanchez denying Wolves with four good second half saves. The Old Gold also hit the bar and put a couple of other good opportunities off target.

The result set a new Brighton club-record top flight winless run of 11 games, stretching all the way back to the 2-1 victory over Leicester City in September.

When Graham Potter responded to the smattering of boos after the previous home match with The Leeds United by saying he needed an Albion history lesson, he probably was not referring to writing himself into the books with such an unwanted record.
